Botticelli's Venus bracelet

When I went through my vintage stash some days ago, ten faceted pearlescent beads begged to be used! Not the first time, but too few for a bracelet. Of course, alternating with other large beads would solve it, I'd tried already - it was too obvious, very boring. But adding some smaller vintage beads with rose quarts beads between made the difference.

Venus Botticelli bracelet by Grey Pearl
The string of creamy mother of pearl finish and the pale, pale rose quarts was embellished with a real little shell with a gold dipped edge. Not with a pearly pearl inside, but a heart-red little glass core for more life.
While attaching the shell I had flashes of a familiar image, with all the details of the bracelet; delicate, feminine, mother of pearly sea-shell, pastel-pale. And I recognised the flash as the Birth of Venus - of course it was all very Botticelli-esque.

This, and more bracelets are recently added the "Hold That Thought" collection. For more holiday present ideas go look up Colour my Day Bracelets and click on the "Hold That Thought" PDF catalog for details and prices. Many of these bracelets are one of a kind, so I'm sorry, when gone they're gone. But the idea is there - serving as a good inspiration for something similar.

More Crystal Chains from Grey Pearl

Crystal Chain bracelets are elastic bracelets - with chains framing sparkling glass in hues of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Pleasant, pleasant! Mix and stack.
Crystal Chains are inspired by stained glass windows; windows that represent the essence I’m looking for in jewellery: an attractive display that creates a sentiment provoking after-image. Like church windows or the coloured windows below from Miami Airport. What a wonderful rainbow feel!

To wear all seven colours may be on the heavier side, but for another full sparkly rainbow around your wrist take a look at Rainbow Chains as well!

'Harmonic Convergence'' installation by American sound architect Christopher Janney, at the Miami International Airport in Florida, USA.
"Harmonic Convergence' is an interactive sound and light installation, constructed within the pedestrian walkway of the Miami International Airport. The work combines light, colour, and sound as it leads passengers from a rental car terminal to the airport proper. Speakers installed at regular intervals along the walkway create a continuously changing 'sonic portrait' of South Florida as they play the sounds of tropical birds, thunderstorms, and other environments native to the region."

Coco, style and age

I do like hearing that the Coco Chains are adding style to an outfit. But then, I did name them in honour of a style icon! No lack of opinions about style and fashion from Coco Chanel; two quotes from a long list:

“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”

“Fashion changes, but style endures.”     Coco Chanel
And then, just a little reminder that when it comes to style, age is irrelevant and years are worth collecting!

Bridget Sojourner, right, a model activist from London: "As a young girl, no one stopped me. I was quite like a lot of young girls. Now, I'm unusual because I'm older. When people started stopping me about my clothes I thought, I've been through feminism, racism, all the prejudices... I'm an activist and Ageism is the last bastion."

Right:
Says Mary, "A good pair of sunglasses is better than a facelift. It hides the ravages of time and lets you spy on people."

Oh, I just love these ladies. And I have only just started!
Wait and see!

I will spy for you!

Back to blogging again - this time my new interest in jewellery design is the primary motive for sharing. I'll be sharing my own designs, other designers and inspiring design from various fields and fashion.
And I'll be going back to my good old mood boards that seem to be in fashion right now. Images will be the main thing here.

Shoes from Florence and my textile designs from mid 80's as clothing
As I recall it, (confirmed by my 30 year old sketch books), back in art school it used to be fashion that inspired most of my designs + a tiny dash of nature, perhaps.

With jewellery design I find myself reconnecting with the restless energy of the fashion world, the constant change and craving for what's new; which keeps you alert. I discover I'm still fascinated by this energy, allthough no longer totally ruled by it; maturity adds a healthy distance.

    I spy...

'I see, therefore I am' - Sampling all things seen and liked and posting it on pinterest, or similar sites seems to be a new way of proving one's existence.
Fine with me, because I intend to prove that I exist by sharing what "I spy with my little eye".
    Enjoy!
